I thought I’d share the two scriptures that will serve as the over-arching theme for “Lightweightz,” and why I chose them:
“You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your father in heaven.” – Matthew 5:14-16 (NIV)
Why this one? I like this one as a theme scripture because it highlights the importance of light in a practical sense, as well as in a spiritual sense. Furthermore, it distinguishes the light-bearer from the light-giver/source. As Christians, we are to use our light in a way that brings glory to God, not ourselves. Of course there are times when we do not use our light in this way, and this is something I really look forward to exploring in “Lightweightz.”
“Now to each one the manifestation of the spirit is given for the common good.” – 1 Corinthians 12:7 (NIV)
Why this one? I like this one because it implies that each of us are given gifts that while distinct, are related to those of others. The scripture also speaks to a grand purpose through which these gifts should be used and combined. Whether we view them as gifts or not, we all have the capacity and ability to love, encourage, and inspire others and to make the world better (I tried to avoid the cliche but something had to give, lol). This concept is central to “Lightweightz,” from the type of abilities they have, to the way they are used.
So there you have it. Take care and stay tuned for future updates…
