I pray all is well. Since I interviewed creator and writer Craig Schutt, his publisher Influence Resources sent me the entire Welcome to Holsom graphic novel for free (how awesome is that?)! Set in a small town, the story revolves around a group of kids who stumble upon a robot. A more detailed description from the website is below.
Everyone always thought ol’ Horatio Holsom was a little crazy. But no one suspected the truth until four kids accidentally discovered Horatio’s underground laboratory— and a 12-foot tall guardian robot!
Collecting the best-selling comic book series for the first time in four trade paperback volumes, this is your chance to join the Holsom kids as they struggle with real-life issues such as bullying, honesty, peer pressure, and faith.
There are MANY things I love about this comic, and doing each one justice would make this post way too long. So I’ll keep it brief by saying that I’ve read a great deal of comics from various formats (e.g., print, digital, web) and genres (e.g., biblical, family, adventure, sci-fi, superhero, etc.), and Welcome to Holsom is truly something to behold. It’s a fresh, original story with a believable world and characters dealing with issues relevant to older children (and their parents) transitioning into the teenage years. Each of these elements work nicely to create something greater than the sum of its parts. And the art’s top-notch as well!
It’s pretty obvious that I highly recommend it, lol so grab your copy because it’s worth it. If you’ve read it, what do you think?
